Why Did Juicing Become So Popular?

Many of us aren’t getting enough servings of fruits and vegetables throughout the day. However, the juices and drinks we buy in the store are full of sugar and preservatives that do more harm than good. Juicing at home is an easy and effective way to get tons of vitamins and minerals in one sitting.

Detox juices are highly anti-inflammatory and full of antioxidants that fight off free radicals in the body.  In addition, juicing can:

Boost Weight Loss
Improve Immune Function
Decrease Cravings
Clear Skin
Increase Energy
Reset Long Running Habits

Watch Out For….

During a nutritional detoxification program, one of the goals is to reduce unnecessary stress on the body. With juice, your body absorbs the micronutrients without having to do the work of breaking down food.  This can help save energy for the body to use for healing and repairing.

But fruit and vegetable juice is highly concentrated – much higher than we would consume naturally….. and more isn’t always better.

For example, to make one cup of carrot juice, you would need five large carrots – more than most of us could or WOULD eat.

The high nutrient concentration can place stress on the organs, particularly the kidneys. The kidneys are part of your elimination system and play a major role in regulating body fluids and eliminating metabolic and toxic wastes.  For most of us with normal kidney function, we don’t have to worry about limiting fluids.  But the increase in fluid, potassium, and sodium in excess can be problematic for people with impaired kidney function.  Always consult with your physician before starting a juicing program.

Ease Up on the Fruit - At First

Fruit juices are wonderful for accelerating detoxification, and are great for turning on the brain, nerves and glands.  Vegetable juices are our builders – especially bone, muscle and connective tissue.  But if you are just starting out, we recommended vegetable juices, diluting with a half and half (see above) and keeping the duration short – 1-3 days if you are just starting out.

Fruit is high in natural sugar, which can create a bond with the toxins in the body and rapidly speed phase one of detoxification.

Consider a Hybrid Plan

If you’ve been following  a more typical American Diet, it may be more beneficial to approach juicing in a phased approach, and starting out with one smoothie, a juice, and a third nutritional detox meal can be a very gentle, yet effective roadmap to detoxification.

And think short term…. Juicing is not meant to replace all meals for a long period of time, as it will not provide a balance of all the nutrients our bodies need.

Don’t Forget the Fat

Juice will contain a high amount of micronutrients.  To unlock some of these goodies like vitamins A, D, E, and K, you need just a bit of fat

Not only are healthy fats anti inflammatory, but they can boost brain and heart health, but they can help preserve muscle mass as we get older.

During a short juice fat, fatty acid availability isn’t likely to be an issue, as our body stores fat soluble vitamins.  And even your fresh produce in your juices will contain trace amounts of fat.

But if you want to give a bit of a boost you can:

Add 1-2 teaspoons of olive, coconut, hemp, flax, walnut, or macadmia oil to your juice once a day

Vibe Detox Mean Green Go-To

5 oz Kale
1 Medium Cucumber
4 Celery Stalks
1/4 Apple
Handful Parsley
Splash Lime

Why We Love It

Kale is a member of the cruciferous family which will support phase II detoxification and is high in vitamin C, calcium and is cancer fighting.  Cucumber is a rich source of silica, excellent for connective tissue,  hair, skin, nails and reducing water retention.  Celery contains coumarins, which are helpful against cancer and capable of boosting white blood cells.  Celery improves detoxification, lowers blood pressure, cholesterol and joint pain, and can be helpful with migraines.  Apple adds a touch of sweetness to this juice and can help with asthma, heart disease, and cholesterol.  Parsley is heart healthy, tamps down inflammation, and has anti-cancer effects.  Lime can affect cell cycles – specifically the decision of a cell to divide or die, and can boost white blood cell activity.

Vibe Detox Green Weight Loss

  • 2 Celery stalks
  • Fresh ginger
  • Lemon
  • Green apple
  • Cucumber

This green juice is full of vitamins, minerals that help with detoxification. All of these ingredients have incredible benefits for both weight loss and overall health. Cucumber is high in water content, which will help you stay hydrated. Sometimes, we confuse thirst for hunger. Keeping hydrated will help you distinguish whether you are hungry or just thirsty. Our bodies need water to live, and one of its functions is to keep our digestive systems working properly. Water is essential for flushing out toxins and wastes from our bodies.

Green apple adds some sweetness to this juice without contributing too many grams of sugar. Apples are high in fiber, which keeps you full for longer, so you’re less likely to snack often. Make sure that you keep the skin on your apples because that is where all the fiber and nutrients are. You can also swap the apple out with a pear.

Celery is an amazing ingredient for detoxification in general, but it also helps with weight loss. Celery is low in calories, high in fiber, and also has high water content. That means that it will keep you full without contributing too many calories, while also keeping you hydrated.

The lemon will help kickstart your metabolism, especially if you drink this juice in the morning. The boost in metabolism and digestion can help promote weight loss over time. Lemons are also high in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps detoxify the body and keep us healthy.

Ginger is a powerful spice that contains anti-inflammatory properties. Not only will the ginger add flavor to your juice, but it also has many health and weight loss benefits. Ginger may boost your metabolism and speed up digestion, which can help you lose weight. Some studies have shown that ginger also mildly suppresses appetite.
