EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a form of energy therapy that uses tapping on specific meridian points in a specific order to neturalize the body’s response to a negative emotion.  Tapping sends a calming signal to the brain telling your brain it’s safe and can undo dysfunctional responses like anxiety about certain people or events, traumatic stress, or outdated limiting beliefts just to name a few.

What is Tapping and How Does Tapping Work?

Tapping falls under the umbrella of the emerging field of Energy Psychology.  Energy psychology uses principles and provides tenchiques and tools to work with the body’s energy systems to create change in emotions, thoughts and behavioral patterns.

When you feel an emotion, your body releases energy in the form of electrical impulses. These impulses travel through the body along pathways called meridians. Meridiians are the energy highway of our body.  Energy flows throughout the body through meridians much like blood flows through veins.

By tapping on certain meridian points in a specific sequence, you can help to clear any blockages that may be preventing the free flow of energy. This can help to reduce or completely eliminate the emotional response to a particular trigger.

Tapping can be a standalone therapy or a complimentary therapy…

Tapping can be a standalone therapy or it can be combined with other energy psychology methods and traditional cognitive behavioral therapy.  Most often in sessions tapping is combined with Resonance Repatterning and Energy Clearing for rapid transformation.

“Most non-energy psychotherapies engage only thought and emotion. However, energy psychology activates emotion, cognition, the physical body and energy system within a single session. This may be why energy psychology approaches appear to work more quickly than conventional psychotherapy.

Another unique aspect of energy psychology is identifying and resolving “reversals.” While we do not completely understand how and why they come about, reversals act as forms of resistance and self-sabotage. It is common for EP therapists to use the analogy that a reversal is like “your wires being crossed.” The felt experience of a reversal varies. It ranges from “being into experiences that ought to feel bad” (i.e. addictions) to “just not being motivated” to make progress toward some goal (e.g., losing weight, making more money). Energy psychology includes methods to easily identify the root of these issues and resolve them, often very quickly.  – Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology
